Biscay

A named sea area used in the UK Shipping Forecast, covering much of the Bay of Biscay.

The area lies off western France and northern Spain and takes its name from the bay. Forecasts for Biscay describe expected wind, weather, visibility and sea state across the defined forecast area.

Its exposed Atlantic position can produce demanding conditions, but no fixed wind force or wave height defines the area. Passage planning should use current forecasts, warnings and the official sea-area boundaries rather than historical reputation or anecdote.
