Afloat

Supported by the water and not resting on the bottom or shore.

A vessel is afloat when buoyancy supports its weight and it is free of the ground, although it may still be anchored, moored or unable to manoeuvre. The term can also describe people, cargo or debris floating in the water.

Being afloat does not prove that a vessel is watertight, stable or safe: a damaged or flooding vessel can remain afloat temporarily. Draught, freeboard, trim, stability and water ingress provide more specific information about its condition.
