Irish Sea

A named sea area used in the UK Shipping Forecast, covering the waters between Ireland and Great Britain.

The forecast area includes the main body of the Irish Sea and is bounded by neighbouring forecast areas. Forecasts describe expected wind, weather, visibility and sea state across the defined waters.

Strong tidal streams, headlands, banks and relatively shallow water can produce significant local variations, so an area forecast must be used with current warnings, coastal forecasts and local navigational information.
