Neap Range

The difference in height between mean high water neaps and mean low water neaps.

It represents the average tidal range around neap tides at a particular standard port, derived from observations rather than from one individual high and low water. Neap ranges are generally smaller than spring ranges because solar and lunar tidal influences partly oppose one another.

The value is a tidal characteristic, not a prediction for a particular date. Actual and predicted ranges vary through the cycle and can also be affected by weather, so current tide tables or predictions must be used for passage calculations.
