Mist
Visibility reduced by fine water droplets suspended in the air.
This is less severe than fog but can still make navigation marks, shore features and other vessels harder to identify. It often occurs in calm or damp conditions and may vary quickly across a harbour, estuary or coastal area. Skippers should monitor visibility, maintain a good lookout and be ready to slow down if the situation worsens. Even when land remains visible, distance judgement may be unreliable, so position checks should be made using more than one source where available.
