Harden In
Pulling the sheets in to bring a sail closer to the centreline.
This adjusts the sail for sailing closer to the wind. As the vessel turns up from a reach towards a close-hauled course, the sails need to come in to maintain efficient airflow. Overdoing it can stall the sail, while too little trim leaves it underpowered. The adjustment should be made with reference to tell-tales, sail shape, heel and boat speed.
