Haul In
Pulling a line towards the vessel or taking up slack.
This action is used with sheets, halyards, mooring lines, anchor rodes and other control lines. It may trim a sail, raise equipment, recover a line from the water, or bring the vessel closer to a berth. The load can increase quickly, so crew should use winches, cleats and fairleads correctly where fitted. Clear communication avoids confusion when several lines are being handled at the same time.
