Direction of Buoyage
The direction in which lateral marks (port and starboard buoys) should be passed when entering a harbour or following a main channel, based on the IALA buoyage system.
The Direction of Buoyage on a nautical chart indicates the general direction in which lateral marks (such as port and starboard buoys) should be passed when following the main route into a harbour, river, or along a coastline. It helps mariners determine which side to keep navigation marks on, based on the IALA buoyage system (Region A or B). This symbol is essential for safe passage planning, especially in areas where the direction of traffic might not be immediately obvious.
