Portland
A Met Office Shipping Forecast sea area in the western English Channel south of Dorset and neighbouring waters.
Named after Portland, it lies between Wight to the east and Plymouth to the west within the official forecast grid.
The name is a forecast-area label rather than a radius around Portland Bill. Current published coordinates define the precise limits.
Named for Portland Bill on Dorset’s coast, Portland has west to southwest winds of Force 4–6 and moderate seas, occasionally rough in winter. Strong currents around the Bill expose historic wrecks, making it a popular dive hotspot.
