Plymouth
A Met Office Shipping Forecast sea area extending from the western English Channel into the adjacent Atlantic approaches.
Named after Plymouth, it lies west of Portland, north of Biscay and east of Sole within the official forecast grid.
It is not limited to Plymouth Sound or nearby coastal waters. The current coordinate map defines the forecast area exactly.
From Plymouth Sound (“mouth of the Plym”), Plymouth experiences west to southwest winds of Force 4–6 and moderate seas with frequent rain showers. In 1620, the Pilgrim Fathers departed under generally benign weather conditions from this area.
