Slip Lines
Ropes or lines used to temporarily secure a vessel to a dock or mooring point in such a way that they can be released from onboard without requiring crew ashore.
Slip lines are commonly employed when a vessel needs to depart quickly or when shore access is limited. They are typically run from the vessel around a bollard, cleat, or other fixed point on the dock, and then back to the vessel, allowing the crew to release the line by pulling it aboard without needing to step ashore. This setup is especially useful in situations where the vessel is docked temporarily or during short stops, and it enhances safety and efficiency by reducing the need for crew to disembark. Slip lines are often used in conjunction with other mooring lines and must be carefully managed to avoid fouling or entanglement during departure. Proper handling and clear communication among crew are essential to ensure the lines are released in the correct sequence and under control, particularly in windy or tidal conditions.
