Bimini
A canvas or fabric top supported by a metal frame, typically found on boats to provide shade and protection from the sun.
A Bimini is a popular addition to many boats, particularly those used for leisure and fishing, as it offers protection from the sun while allowing for an open-air experience. It is usually made from durable, weather-resistant materials such as canvas or synthetic fabrics like polyester or acrylic, ensuring longevity in marine environments. The frame is typically constructed from stainless steel or aluminium to resist corrosion and withstand exposure to saltwater.
Biminis are designed to be collapsible, allowing boaters to fold them down when not in use or when navigating under low bridges. They are commonly found on motorboats, sailing yachts, and pontoon boats, providing shade for the cockpit or seating areas. Some Biminis can be customised with additional features such as side curtains or zip-on extensions to offer more protection from wind and rain.
While a Bimini offers shade, it does not provide full enclosure or waterproofing like a cabin or hardtop. However, it significantly enhances comfort on the water, particularly in hot climates, by reducing direct sun exposure and helping to keep the boat’s interior cooler.
