Sole (Shipping Forecast Area)

A named sea area in the United Kingdom Shipping Forecast covering Atlantic waters west and south-west of the British Isles.

The area takes its name from Sole Bank, west of the Isles of Scilly, and lies among the forecast areas FitzRoy, Lundy, Fastnet and Shannon. Its official charted boundaries, rather than the bank alone, determine whether a position is within the area.

A Sole forecast summarises wind, sea state, weather and visibility across a large region and may combine the area with neighbours when conditions are similar. Local conditions can differ, so the current forecast, warnings, position and more detailed products must be used together.
