Fastnet

A named sea area used in the UK Shipping Forecast, south of Ireland around Fastnet Rock.

The area takes its name from Fastnet Rock, southwest of Cape Clear. Forecasts for Fastnet describe expected wind, weather, visibility and sea state across the defined offshore area.

The Fastnet Race and the severe 1979 storm are historically associated with these waters, but an event or claimed seasonal force does not define the forecast area. Current official forecasts and warnings should be used for passage planning.
