Waterproof clothing worn to keep crew dry in wet or rough conditions.

This clothing usually includes a jacket and trousers or salopettes designed to resist spray, rain and water running across the deck. Good marine waterproofs allow movement while protecting the wearer from wind chill and prolonged exposure. Features such as high collars, cuffs, reflective panels and reinforced seats make them suitable for life on deck. They are often worn with base layers, mid layers, boots and a lifejacket to maintain comfort and mobility during longer passages.
