Gybe-oh!
A warning call that a sailing vessel is beginning a gybe and the boom is about to cross the boat.
The call alerts the crew to keep clear of the boom, mainsheet and associated tackle and to carry out their assigned actions. It is normally made as the helm is applied after the crew has been prepared for the manoeuvre.
Wording varies between boats and training systems; “gybe-ho” is another common form. Whatever phrase is used, it should be agreed, audible and unambiguous, and it does not replace preparation, control of the mainsail and awareness of an accidental gybe.
