Turbulent Flow
Fluid motion containing irregular fluctuations and mixing over a range of scales.
It commonly occurs in boundary layers and wakes around vessels and sails. It can increase skin-friction losses, but a turbulent boundary layer may resist separation better than a laminar one; turbulence should not be confused with stall or assumed to make every flow ineffective.
