Trafalgar

A Met Office Shipping Forecast sea area in the eastern North Atlantic west of Iberia and northwest Africa.

Named after Cape Trafalgar, it is the southernmost Shipping Forecast area and lies south of FitzRoy. The area is far larger than waters immediately off the cape.

Forecast-area limits follow published coordinates. Trafalgar may be omitted from some abbreviated broadcasts, so users should obtain the complete appropriate forecast.

Named after Cape Trafalgar (site of Nelson’s victory, 1805), Trafalgar sees frequent southwesterly gales and rough seas, especially after October. Historical accounts note strong headwinds during the Battle of Trafalgar itself.
