Protective covers fitted over vulnerable windows or openings to resist heavy seas and impact.

They may be removable boards or purpose-built shutters, depending on the vessel. They must be properly secured to suitable structure without obstructing essential escape or ventilation arrangements; they supplement the opening’s construction rather than making any window automatically safe in breaking seas.
