Southeast Iceland
A Met Office Shipping Forecast sea area in the North Atlantic immediately southeast of Iceland.
It occupies the northern end of the forecast region beyond Faeroes and Bailey and is bounded by published coordinates extending towards the Icelandic coast.
The name is a formal forecast-area label rather than a general description of all waters southeast of Iceland. The current Met Office area map defines its limits.
Southeast Iceland covers waters renamed from “Iceland” in 1955, southeast of the island. Influenced by the Gulf Stream, it is milder than the open Atlantic but still sees frequent gales (Force 8–10) and large swells; a January 1995 storm produced a record 55-knot gust off the coast.
