Locker (Storage)

An enclosed or partly enclosed compartment used to store equipment, supplies or personal belongings aboard.

Lockers may be located on deck, under seats or bunks, in the cockpit or within machinery and accommodation spaces. Their name often reflects purpose or position, such as chain locker, gas locker, wet locker or cockpit locker, and those specialised types may require drainage or ventilation.

Contents should be secured against vessel motion and kept clear of controls, drains and access routes. Loads must suit the supporting structure, while incompatible chemicals, fuels, gas cylinders, wet equipment and ignition sources require separation and arrangements designed for their hazards.
