Nautical Terms & TerminologyUnderstanding the language of the marine world is like trying to learn a pirate’s secret code while juggling fish. So hoist the main, set your course, and let’s sail into the stories, lessons, and musings that make life on the sea so irresistible. An opening and cover giving access to a storage compartment near a vessel’s stern.
It may be in the cockpit or after deck and can admit water if left open or poorly sealed. Secure the cover as appropriate before sailing and keep access clear where the compartment contains steering gear, safety equipment or essential valves.
