Laminar Flow
Fluid motion in which adjacent layers move with little irregular mixing between them.
It can occur in parts of the boundary layer around a sail, hull or foil before transition to turbulence. Smooth flow is not guaranteed by a polished surface, and laminar flow is distinct from attached flow: a turbulent boundary layer can remain attached and useful.
