German Bight
A named sea area used in the UK Shipping Forecast, in the southeastern North Sea off Germany and the Netherlands.
The name describes the broad bight between the coasts of the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark. Forecasts report expected wind, weather, visibility and sea state for the defined area.
Its shallow waters and coastal exposure affect conditions, but no fixed wind sequence or “boggy” sea defines it. Current forecasts, warnings and navigational information should replace historical flood anecdotes in a glossary definition.
