Double Up
Adding extra mooring lines to increase security alongside or on a mooring.
This is commonly done before strong winds, heavy wash, bad weather or a period when the vessel will be left unattended. Extra lines share the load and provide backup if one line chafes, slips or parts. They should be led to suitable strong points and arranged so they do not simply duplicate a poor lead. Attention should also be given to fenders, chafe protection, tidal range and movement against the berth.
