Centre of Lateral Resistance
The effective point through which the combined underwater force resisting sideways motion is considered to act.
It depends on the hull, keel, rudder and their operating conditions, rather than simply the geometric centre of the underwater profile. Its relationship to the sail plan’s centre of effort helps explain balance, but heel, speed, leeway and rudder angle also affect steering behaviour.
