Celestial Navigation
Determining position or direction from observations of the Sun, Moon, planets or stars.
A marine sight commonly combines a measured altitude, accurate UTC, almanac data and sight reduction to obtain a position line. Several suitable observations can produce a fix; instrument error, horizon conditions and timing affect accuracy, so one sight alone does not normally establish a complete position.
