A radio using single-sideband modulation, commonly used for longer-range voice communication on marine MF or HF frequencies.

Range varies with frequency, time of day, propagation, antenna and installation. Voice capability alone does not establish that a set provides DSC distress functions; equipment, frequencies, station licensing and operator qualifications must match the intended marine service.
