Routeing Abbreviations on Nautical Charts

Codes identifying traffic systems, recommended routes and regulated sea areas.

Common examples include TSS for traffic separation scheme, ITZ for inshore traffic zone, DW for deep-water route, ATBA for area to be avoided, PSSA for particularly sensitive sea area, ESSA for environmentally sensitive sea area, EEZ for exclusive economic zone and ASL for archipelagic sea lane.
