Cromarty
A named sea area used in the UK Shipping Forecast, off the northeast coast of Scotland.
The area takes its name from Cromarty and the Cromarty Firth. Forecasts for Cromarty describe expected wind, weather, visibility and sea state across the defined offshore area, which is distinct from conditions at one location inside the firth.
No fixed prevailing force or gale frequency defines a Shipping Forecast area. Mariners should use the current forecast, warnings and official boundaries rather than a historical event or generalised typical condition.
