Windward

Windward refers to the direction from which the wind is blowing. When a vessel is sailing to windward, it is heading into or against the wind. The opposite direction is leeward or downwind. Sailors need to consider windward and leeward directions when navigating and manoeuvring their vessels to utilise the wind for propulsion effectively.
