Shock Cord
An elastic cord with a rubber core protected by a woven outer sheath.
Also called bungee cord, it is used to retain light equipment, tension covers and nets, and provide a flexible return or restraint where some movement is useful. The sheath protects the elastic strands and limits extension, while hooks or other end fittings may be attached for a particular use.
Shock cord deteriorates through sunlight, salt, abrasion and repeated stretching. It should not be relied upon for loads whose release could cause injury, loss of essential equipment or failure of a primary securing system, and stretched cord and hooks should be kept away from faces and eyes.
