Navigational Clearance: When a vessel displays the Romeo flag, it indicates that it is stationary or anchored but that the passage around the vessel is clear and safe for other vessels to navigate past. This signal is used in narrow channels, harbours, or areas where vessels may need to pass closely.

Permission to Pass: It informs other vessels that they can safely navigate around the vessel displaying the Romeo flag without obstruction or risk. It’s a communication to indicate that the path around the vessel is clear and safe.

Code Flag Romeo (R)

Nautical or signal flags are used at sea to convey messages over long distances. Only black, blue, red, white and yellow are used because these are the only colours readily distinguished at sea. Many different coding schemes have been used, but the International Code is the most common.
