9 – Nine (Nin Er)
In marine terminology, “9” or “nine” is a code used to indicate the number nine in radio communications or when spelling out numbers. This code is commonly used to avoid confusion with similar-sounding numbers or to ensure clear communication in noisy or busy environments on board a vessel.

Nautical or signal flags are used at sea to convey long-range messages. Only black, blue, red, white and yellow are used because these are the only colours readily distinguished at sea. Many different coding schemes have been used, but the International Code is the most common.
